I guess, in a way, the realities of the contest don't hit home until the dust settles and the smoke clears.

Through many contests and a long time of running, the GTS 250 that I had has finally failed.  From the day I bought it on October 1st of 2009 until the day it blew smoke on April 8, 2012, it has run in every contest, since 2010's TZC onward.

It may have only folded for 2 years, but in those 2 years, it proved to me that it's not the strength of the hardware that matters, nor the points, it's what you do with it.

In its prime, I could match or beat stock GTX 275's.  GTX 260's were but a blur to it as this little card blew by them.  In the fastest days, I had 7.4k points per day out of a card that cost me $120 brand new.

But, all good things must eventually end.  In the second phase of this contest, as the Maniacs faced the Pimps, the GTS 250 blew a v-reg.  It was fixed and rose again, with a board full of GT 240 VRM's.

Well, as fate would have it, the GTS 250 wasn't having any of it, and after a 3 day idle test, it blew something, and blew smoke right out the back of the card.  So today, I'm forced to say that the GTS 250 is no more.

From October 1, 2009 to April 8th, 2012, an oddly long life for a card clocked so high.

To those who will read this and immediately offer hardware to replace it, I respectfully decline.  This card was, in a way, special to me.  It was the first GPU I bought on my own, and it served me well.

Time to cheer this thread up... Because of the huge generosity of this team I am head over heals happy with DutchForce's GTX680 prize from this event. These 680's Nvidia has brought to us are stellar!

Still in the Honeymoon stage... But My current take on the 680's is simple. They are becoming my favorite card ever.

A tad quiter than my 570's they run cooler and use quite a bit less power. What is not to like! Well other than the near impossible to get unless your willing to sacrifice a few hours each day and hope you can type faster than the next guy

Sounds like a good run all things considered; keep the working components from that board so that they may help the next card out.

Well the enthusiastic upgrade and purchase of a 2nd GTS 450 for more folding power, hit a brick wall seems the mobo that was bros and had the slots for 2 GPUs has failed, bro tried everything and when he said everything I he meant it. I'm a total noob I'm not going to hide that fact though it was likely known, So I can't even explain the problem really. All I know is I need a mobo it seems one that goes with the CPU which bro wrote down what kind.

So now my computer is just parts. A brand new GTS 450 sitting there with the other 450 which were going to be SLI'd, just sitting.
My brother leaves tomorrow to move to the other side of the country, so I won't have his help anymore, well not in person.

I'm on my slow laptop.

Shykal, if I may ask, what kind of CPU is it?  Never underestimate the forum, we might yet be able to find you something.

And while I may not have much, I might be able to help.

So what is the problem. I understand you to say that it is solo a problem with a capute MOBO while the processor is still sound. Unless others have reached out to you in PM's any info on what you need to fix it migth meet with someone with the particular MOBO but say a bad processor or some such, without knowning help cant arrive.

Just trying to be helpful.

I would assume the OP wanted a new thread , his own perhaps, and did not want it in the contest section:

 E8500 Intel, FSB - 1333MHZ, socket LGA775, EO/CO = stepping.

Just guessing he's looking for a 680i or 780i MB.
note if he finds the mb he needs , or fixes the one he has, I have some old memory ( untested ) Ballistix 69890 and Patriot PDC24G6400LLQK DDR2 800 I can part with. But as I no longer have a working board, I can no test them.

Sorry about that I forgot to put the link to the thread I made in here, I did my little rant in here then made the thread so as not to hijack this thread any further.

Thanks KMoore you found the thread, that is the CPU I have.

I'm going to be giving things a look over with Madrias' assistance to see if we can figure out if things can be fixed or if I need to replace anything. We will be doing so after the weekend.

I'll keep people posted if we sort the problem or not. And if I'm going to need replacement parts.

If only my brother had of just transferred the hardware from the smaller case to the bigger one and not tried anything, as my rig was running and at the point of only software needing installing, we just didn't like the cramped cables.
