I have pre-ordered two Gtx 1080 FTW editions and I am thinking about getting a new monitor to go with them. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am not ruling out G-sync or any resolution.

HAHAHA! I like how that article lists the X34 as having a 75 GIGA-Hertz refresh rate when they mention it the second time. Methinks they have gigahertz on the brain. MOAR MHZ!

I use the x34 and love it. I paid a lot for it but when I seen it sitting there a micro center It was like haven just opened up I use G-sync at 80hz it will do 90hz. I use 2x780ti but will be upgrading soon with 2x1080. Its taking everything I have to hold back from going to microcenter and getting 2 1080s I have the money saved but I am going to hold out for a better 1080 than the founder unit. x34 for the win. 3440x1440

I will have to research the x34 thank you. I have been looking at the Asus Rog swift pg279q but are quality control issues that bad or are they exaggerated?

I also have a x34 and nothing compares.  I was originally going to pick up a 3 monitor set up but decided the ultra wide was a far better experience.  No regrets.

Really no idea. I think you must have power for future. Pg278q 2k is choice for now and future. Pg279q 4k can be now but kill your configuration early.

It depends on your preferences for ultra-wide or standard 16:9.  For starters, don't even bother if it doesn't have g-sync.  I can't even play on a monitor without it anymore.  You might end up like me.  Do you want something over 60Hz?  If so, limit yourself to 2560x1440 or 3440x1440.  If you're fine with 60Hz, then go with 4K.  Just beware, you won't be maxing every game out at 60FPS, even with a pair of 1080s.  With 4K out of the way, your options are the Asus PG279Q (2560x1440, 165Hz), Acer Predator X34 (3440x1440, 100Hz), or Asus PG348Q (3440x1440, 100Hz).  Personally, I think the "Predator" logo ruins the Acer monitor for me, but it might not bug you.  Not all game support ultra-wide.  Also, prepare for much lower framerates than you would get at 2560x1440.  Finally, 100Hz is nice, but it's not as nice as 144Hz or above.  If you like playing shooters online, the 100FPS will feel like crap if you're used to 144Hz or above.  The other option would be to wait and see what monitors are revealed at Computex.  Since the 1080 supports DP1.3, we should start seeing 4K 120Hz monitors within the next few years.  That's why I'm holding off on 3440x1440, which is limited to 100Hz over DP1.2.

    279Q is 2560x1440 165Hz IPS.  It's the successor to the 278Q.  The 27AQ is the 4K g-sync display.

Remember... once you get a 21:9 screen you can never go back! Pure bliss!

Yep agree with others, I use the ASUS PG348Q with triple Titan X's (or rather did) as I am doing the same and hope a pair of 1080 FTW's prove sufficient as a resplacement. 21:9 plus +100hz and G-Sync is bliss

For that kinda power, I'd personally go with the highest resolution+frames+Gsync available right now, so probably 3440x1440/100hz. (Acer/Asus)
Dunno if we'll see a 4k/120hz monitor before the years out.

Waiting on 4k 120Hz monitors to hit the market before I pickup some new gpu's & a new monitor. PG348Q is the best choice at the moment.
