I have a motherboard that requires an 8 pin power connector for the cpu,  but the EVGA power supply I have has only 4 pin connectors for cpu.  Can I use two of those for the 8pin slot or should I just use one?

Thanks

    Welcome to the forums electronicsfreak

If you have 2 of the 4-pin EPS cables use them both is OK if your PSU has the ports & cables

Some / most MB will work with 1 of the 4-Pin EPS cables -check your manual, which side to use if only one 4-pin

Remember the catch on cable MUST align with the bump on the MB socket -- or you will let the magic smoke out

What Model Number is your Power Supply?
Some have cables that you put two 4-Pin to make your 8-Pin Power Cable, remember that the Cables Will be Marked to what they are for on all EVGA Power Supplies.

The 4 pin wires I am referring to do say cpu on them.  They are the ones for powering the cpu just wasn't sure on using two for 8 pin connector.  Figured they were the same but wanted to make sure before creating a paperweight.

Always good to ask when unsure..But as stated above, you use both halves of a 4+4 pin CPU connector from the PSU in an 8-pin mobo socket.

The reason for a 4+4 pin connector is for compatibility purposes..Some motherboards only have a 4-pin socket in which case you'd use just the 4-pin half..Some motherboards have an 8-pin socket in which case you'd use both halves..Some motherboards have an 8-pin and a 4-pin in which case you'd use the 4+4 pin in one and only the 4-pin part of another cable in the other..Still other have two 8-pin sockets..You get the idea..You can use only the 4-pin connector in an 8-pin socket, but overclocking/stability of the CPU would likely be very limited.
