I have been attaching a fan to the end of my tri-sli'd gpu's since I first got my 480's. The 3d printable bracket I modeled for the 680's doesn't work so well with 780's in an 800D, so I hadn't been using it.  The 780's are just a tad longer, and the fan would have been right up against the sata connector cover on the 800D.

After playing Farcry 3 for a few minutes on the new setup, I was surprised to see my top two cards were hitting 79 degrees, while my bottom card never got over 60. Coming from the cool 680's, this wasn't good enough, and the cards where obviously suffering from suffocation. I modeled and printed a new version that tilts up and draws in air from the empty 5.25 bays. Bottom one still stays as cool as ever, and the top two stay in the mid to high 60's.

Super beau very good

Although, with how cool the cards run now(600/700 series) on the stock coolers, I really don't see the need for it. Both my 670 FTWs run in the 47-49C range with a pretty decent overclock @about 75-80% load. Games like Crysis 2/3 and Metro LL will raise them up to the high 50's but that's as hot as I've seen them get. Using a slightly mod'ed fan curve set to auto. I owe a lot to Antec for building such great cooling solutions.

What a sweet looking build Chaotic Yeti! That is a cool project you made for your fan solution. And the best part is you made it yourself! BR well deserved.

^^^ I've seen numerous types / designs of the same in the past...good idea for sure. Dont want to sound disrespectful or rain on the parade (I have run Air Cooled Tri SLi numerous times and will never go bac to it after finally running Water Cooling), but I would very much like to see some comparison "Load Temp" of boh your top and middle Cards before and after the shroud please.

I just cant see a 15c drop in temp....I would think 6 - 8c on the top two Cards maybe.......I only mention it as when I used to run Tri SLi on Air I tried similar set ups and numerous other and I never saw drops in Temp of more than 5c no matter how much mucking around I did......

So if you get a chance post up some "with n without" shroud load temp pics please ;)

Thats what has finally led me to WC'ing....

Well I saw this post after I installed my new bracket (Thanks Chaotic).  I don't have proof pics of the temps before and after but I can tell you in my system the top card was running on average (in intensive benchmarking) 15-20 degrees hotter than the bottom card before the bracket.  Now that was not always true in games depending on the game and settings but I would say that on average the top card was at least 15 degrees more than the bottom card.

After I installed this bracket with a fan, the differences at full load on the top card are about 10-12 degrees cooler.  The middle card is also cooler by a decent chunk (at load maybe 5-7).  In fact at idle it runs even a bit cooler than my bottom card ( 1 C).   Overall I do notice a significant difference.  Chaotic told my mileage may vary but I have to say I am very pleased with the results so far.

^^^ When I was running 580's and 680 Classy's in Tri SLi on Air there always was a 12c - 15c delta between the top Card and bottom Card....glad its workin out.....BUT that 900D is "screaming" for some Radiators dude!!!.....especially running Tri SLi.....nice Custom loop with 3 EK Full WB's on those GPU's and you'll be wondering why you hadnt already ;)

I realize that.  An perhaps that will be my next upgrade. I am taped out on resources for a bit.  The mortgage and food for the family take priority.

Besides I am not sure I can part with the nice coolers on the 780's.  My system works well enough for me atm.
