As the title says. My frame rate is jumping all over the place, sometimes as low as 30 up to 85.

Settings defaulted to ultra at 1080p.
System specs

FX 8350 at stock 4Ghz
24GB 1600Mhz ram
Gigabyte 990fxa-ud7 Rev 1
Silverstone 1200 watt PSU.
Windows 10 x64
All game recording/capture is disabled
Latest drivers.

Am I expecting too much from the card? Or could my older MB and CPU be bottlenecking? I know it's only pcie 2.0. CPU usage never goes above 80% tries dX 11 and 12.

If I turn vsync on. GPUclock never goes above 800 and doesn't even get hot enough to run the fans. Vsync off and you runs full speed but get the frame rates all over. Other games seem to run well. But they don't push the card much. Crysys 3 ran at full detail without issues. Could it be that bf1 needs some patching?

Looking forward to hearing others input.

If CPU usage on a single core goes to 100% (or close) then it is likely that the CPU and memory are holding back the GPU. A stock 8350 with 1600MHz RAM is weak compared to even a low model i5, it is unfortunate but true.

Overclocking the CPU and RAM, if the cooler can handle it and if the OC is stable, might help alleviate the problem.

If BF1 has a DX12 mode that might also help. FPS average might lower overall, but those dips should hopefully be less.

Also, if your GPU clock is sticking at lower than 1607MHz you might want to check the Windows as well as the Nvidia power options.

Edit: do you have the latest BIOS installed on your motherboard? Updating to the latest might help.

Could be driver related. I updated to 375 driver Friday and it screwed up Forza Horizons big time. Weird graphics flickering in  and out on vehicles and roadway. I had to roll back to the 372.90 again!! What the heck is going on Nvidia? Drivers seem to be getting worse as they release??!!

Newest Drivers was fine for me! Gave me a lot higher scores in firestrike! So I guess they may run hot as in more performance?

I'd say run evga precision X and check the mhz the card is runing at.

Might need to select max performance under 3d setting in the nvidia control panel for battlefield 1.

Your cpu is definitely going to hold you back a bit. Sounds like your in game settings may be too high. Have you tried lowering your in game settings to see if it helps reduce the jumpy frame rates?

Ya I know. But it was free😀

Had it over clocked, didnt seem to make much of a difference.

Tried dX 12,seems to help a bit.

    GPU is hitting over 1900Mhz

Had the latest, just went back one to see if it would change anything, havnt had enough time to fully test.

Use EVGA Precision X or MSI Afterburner and check your GPU usage during gaming.  If it's not nearing 100% then unfortunately your CPU is holding it back (very likely).  If it is and you still get low framerates in most games it's most likely because of the single core speed on your CPU just isn't up to the task.  You'd be surprised how much a fast CPU makes on MINIMUM framerates alone.  In this case OC'ing it should definitely help.

I think youre expecting too much from your CPU cause the card has a major bottleneck in it to deal with.
