I would like to know if we all have possibly faulty cards because of the missing thermal pads on the vrm`s, I would also like to know if this is true...
Unfortunately, some owners of EVGA’s GTX 1070 and 1080 series cards have been experiencing black screen issues and in isolated cases, this has led to units sparking and even becoming completely broken. Tom’s Hardware.de conducted thorough testing it seems the issues arise due to the absence of thermal pads over the VRM on FTW branded cards. This leads to higher operating temperatures and reports suggested the GDDR5X memory chips were reaching thermals around 107C, which is well above the rated operating temperatures of 0°C ≤ TC ≤ +95°C.

If so then wont this have already caused damage to the card and by simply adding thermal pads now is already too late as damage may have been done?

I'm pretty sure this is also related to the balck screen 100% fans issue that the 1080s have had but for some reason no one will give us a real answer.
come on evga what really going on????

The thermal pads are not missing. EVGA is adding more thermal pads in hopes of lowering temperatures for users at the users request.

The thermal issues in question are being experienced on ACX model cards, and EVGA is sending out thermal pads for anyone with an ACX.

This question has been answered numerous times on the thread you linked.

The sparking issue can not be directly linked to the heat unfortunately. As a matter of fact, we just had a power inverter catch fire at work and it wasnt even warm or in use. Electronics fail occasionally, it happens. Capacitors have caught on fire in the past, resistors have failed, traces have melted together... It happens.

The heat issue is new and EVGA is trying to help lower temps. The ACX and the ACX 2.0 functioned almost exactly the same as the 3.0 (except the 3.0 has lighting on them and a different shroud), and this issue was never evident. Hopefully EVGA can figure out what is causing the issue this generation, and if the heat and failed components are linked, they can resolve the issue for users..

Why does the 1080 classified have less thermal pad than the 980ti classified when they are almost the same layout??
Does not fill me with confidence tbh...

The top is the 980ti with full thermal pad cover while the bottom is the 1080 with only a thin strip .

Let's face it, the ACX cooler design is really good for the GPU core, and really Masked Vulgar Language removed. Masking vulgar language to get past language filters is not allowed on the VRM section which manages to radiate all over even some of the GDDR5 modules.

EVGA's response with thermal pads is a band-aid for a design error. Having VRM run that hot is detrimental to the longevity of the product, it really is that simple. Even with the thermal pad mod, 85 C is a high temp. Put Asus Strix side by side and the difference on FLIR imaging is tremendous, showing a shoddy design versus a proper, well engineered cooling solution.

Does classy suffer the same issue as the FTW? No, VRM temps are slightly lower. Regardless, VRM is still in the same position relative to the ACX cooler, half-blocked by its heatpipes and has a notable hotspot that other vendor cards do not always have. It can definitely be improved and EVGA has dropped the ball on this one, not once, but now twice. Because ACX 2.0 was similar and has also been having issues left and right.

Just had a look at the link for thermal pads and It says "available for request" with my classified card details
So does it mean I have to request them?
I'm just a bit annoyed that we as an end user are having to fix your problems and TBH if there wasn`t anything to be worried about with the vrm thermals you would not be giving them away for free. You say without them the cards run fine yet I bet these pads will be pre fitted on all your new cards as standard.....

The Top Card looks like a Classified Card while the Bottom card only looks like a Ti Card?
What are the Full P/N for each of the above Cards?
    Hard to tell is all.

Top card is a 980ti classified and bottom is a 1080 classified with the still taken from the utube vid of a early classified 1080, only difference now is the led says classified in red where as the one in the vid doesnot.
