Hi,

Two days ago I received this card, and this afternoon playing some games I have discovered that workload makes a strong electrical noise. My previous card did not and the truth is quite annoying once you know it's there.

Someone else has this happened? the truth is today is doing strange things, at the moment reaches 57º and up using internet only

hello and welcome to the forums.

The temps are normal as the fan will not work until around 60C-62C. (need to check if your card idles at around 300mhz
now about the electrical noise that's actually called Coil whine and most of the cards have it... some more some less.

Yesterday during the day, under the same conditions and with fans off, the temps are much more normal (35-38º), even now after restarting, reamins at 38º. but before, after closing the witcher 3, temperature not recovered those values.

about the electrical noise or "coil whine", I have seen that is very common in all brands, and which is acceptable but will not let me very happy, the old card did not sound.

Thanks for the welcome and your opinion!

Some browsers (Chrome) and webplayers (youtube) use GPU Acceleration. So it is normal to see some higher usage of the GPU during websurfing etc. especially at higher frame rates and higher resolutions.

Coil Whine can sometimes be mitigated by a burn in. You could download Heaven benchmark and let it run overnight on a loop and see if some/all of the coil whine goes away in the morning.

This is what EVGA recommends doing, and if the problem persists you can see about an RMA.

It should be noted that some older, and some cheaper, power supplies can induce coil whine.

I can understand that you worry about your new card. I can assure you that you are in good hands.
The burn in for coil whine can help and reduce the noise as suggested before me. So is a power supply. I wonder what psu do you have?

So I am having the same issue. After receiving my card 4 days ago I started noticing the coil whine in the Witcher 3 and when I benchmarked it. It's something Ive never had before I got a corsair 750hx powersupply and a new msi sli-plus motherboard and when I swap the card to my friends pc with a corsairRM 850x it has the same problem. He has the msi gamingx 1080 wich runs great. But I wanted to go with EVGA.

Before this card I owned an amd r9 290x, great card but I had problems with the fans. Before that card I had an EVGA 580x which I had never any issues with and its a solid card wich will still run to this date.
Anyway, so I decided to go for EVGA again with the 1070ftw.

Now I have tried also to run Heaven benchmark and Valley benchmark overnight and when I came back to it I am still hearing it. In this benchmark it's not as audible as in games with higher fps. I basicly now have to run every game with v-sync on to minimize the sound. It's very annoying for something I payed so much for.

Do you guys now what next step I could take to get a better experience with my 1070FTW?

It's the components of your PC. I had a Corsair HX750 that would make coil whine a lot more noticeable than my Seasonic X-1250 power supply. For some changing out things like the motherboard or other components can help.

    Intel i9 10900K | Intel i7 9700K

Hmm maybe but why did it also make the loud coil whine on an RM 850x/asus z170pro combination.
Also I have a brand new motherboard msi sli plus z170. So I doubt it's that also I dont think I can afford another 200+ euro component for my pc anytime soon.

    Hello Asgar_55,

Welcome to the forums. As stated by a few others, previously, other components in the system can induce or magnify coil whine. It is always recommended to try testing with other hardware, to see if the issue subsides. The burn-in, also previously suggested, can sometimes quell the noise heard from coil whine.

If you continue to experience the noise and have eliminated the other hardware as a possibility, or if you simply have no way of testing in another computer, we can assist with an RMA to have the product replaced, but there's no guarantee that the replacement won't have the same issue or worse. Many high end electronics exhibit coil whine, but most of the time, it resonates outside the range of normal human hearing.

If you wish to troubleshoot further or would like to setup an RMA, please contact our support team 24/7 at Support@evga.com or 888-881-3842.

Build quality between those two PSU's are pretty close... They both use the company CWT for their builds. Personally I'd rather run Superflower or Seasonic.

    Hi again,

To update the case, I would say that the problem has disappeared almost completely, after removing the card completely for the PC and reinstall the drivers previos use of DDU. Only with this, the noise practically do not exist for the moment, and I'm much happier

Thank to all for your advices.

Edit: for more information, my PSU is a Enermax Revolution Xt 730W 80 plus gold

Went to a several friends over the past two weeks who purchased ASUS GTX 1080 cards and you can hear coil whine with those as well. Personally I find mine lower than theirs and only when I'm folding at home. Don't hear it so much while gaming.

was just going to say this

after burn in, if you still have coil whine the power supply would be my 1st suspect

My 1070 FTW also does a little bit of buzzing. It's not high pitched omg am I a dog type. But it's certainly makes you think weather I received a good card or not. I'll try to do the "Burn In" and see if that changes anything. Although I've only heard it while benchmarking.

    Hi, Asgar_55

I got my Evga 1070 ftw 2 weeks ago and have noticed an electric buzzing coming from where the 2 8-pin pcie connect on the graphics card and have coil whine even with vsync on at 60fps.

My power supply is the EVGA supernova 850 g2
I have tried removing the card, checking all cables are firmly seated correctly and clean install of drivers with DDU like you did but nothing has fixed the noise for me so far.

Just thought I would let you know I have the same problem.
