Backplates for the new versions are on sale on EVGA, I ordered 2 for the SSCs. Look at the backplate pages on EVGA, it tells you want it is compatible with.

Basically I just need to know if these are the same cards ... Just a retail store model # and a online model # evga really doesn't have much info on the one with the best buy sku# but all spec's look the same to me.

Looking at the pictures, I would say NO!!  There is 2 DVI ports on these cards and the new 970 SSC only have 1.  Also the price on that is ridiculous, cheaper to go through amazon or the egg.  Especially if you don't pay taxes to them.

Looks like the normal PCB back plate will work for this card model P/N:100-BP-0972-B9
This was EVGA's response from my support ticket on this:

I went ahead and ordered the back plate, will let you know if it fits when I receive it.

With Bestbuy stocking EVGA and Nvidia's reference models, and honoring their warranty is like the only reason i shop at bestbuy in the firstplace. They are top notch when it comes to EVGA's warranty, especially if you didnt even buy the card from bestbuy.

Just got two of them today at Bestbuy, They even priced match Newegg for 309 sale price. The Shelve price was like 399.99. Feel like I cheated..these are replacing two 670's

$309 is a nice price for the SSC.

I paid $369 and $329 for my 2 970 FTW's respectively back in December. You will love the 970's. I moved up from a single 660 Ti to a 970 and was blown away by it's power. ordered the 2nd just to increase longevity and delaying how soon I would have to upgrade.

It's not cheating. They got those cards for wholesale, probably quite a bit under $300. They raise the price because of overhead and what not. They don't advertise lower prices because not everybody knows to get them to price match. Nice pickup though.

Well I ran a few games and benchmarks.
FFXIV Heavensward Benchmark 1920x1080 full screen Max settings  126 FPS  (old 670 SLI 92FPS)
Battlefield 4 1920x1080 full screen Max settings 154 FPS (old 670 SLI 96FPS)
Tomb Raider Benchmark 1920x1080 full screen Max settings 238 FPS (old 670 SLI 126FPS)
Latest Version of Star Citizen 1920x1080 full screen Very High settings 56 FPS (old 670 SLI 16 FPS)

oh and the temps were 62-65c (Compared to my old 670 SLI 85c), and the most VRAM usage I saw was 2350MB

These cards are awesome, Don't know why so much hate about the 970 from bestbuy. It's a great deal if you can get them for cheap like I did.

I don't think the "hate" was aimed towards BestBuy (even though they're not the best for customer service), but it was aimed at the fact the 970 is one of the most controversial topics ever to have been made. I even think it's still being investigated, I'm not sure though. Off the record, I bought the same ones from BestBuy also. They're good.

The best part about BestBuy is that they honor all EVGA warranties. So if you have a problem with your card, i'm pretty sure you can walk in with your bad GPU and they will give you replacement on the fly. I'm fairly sure on that one.
